DHAKA: BSF Jawan Amioyo Ghosh, accused of killing a Bangladeshi girl on the border in 2011, will face a fresh trial after being acquitted by a General Security Force Court earlier this month.

The Competent Authority in the case, which is an Additional Director General rank officer of the paramilitary, has "not agreed with the findings of the court and has decided to hold a revision trial in the instant case."

Felani Khatun, was killed on January 7 in the area of Choudharyhat border post in the Coochbehar district of West Bengal in 2011.

The incident had created uproar about the conduct of the force on the border and on September 9 when a General Security Force Court held trooper Amiya Ghosh "not guilty" a number of questions were raised.

The Border Security Force (BSF) has now decided to start a fresh trial in the case after the proceedings of the recent trial were sent for legal scrutiny which favoured a re-trial, a senior official of the force said.

The government has recently said it was mulling for an appeal in the case.
