Judge Kamrunnahar attached to law ministry

Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-7 Dhaka Judge Begum Mosammat Kamrunnahar has been attached to the law ministry following controversial observation in her judgment on Raintree Hotel rape case.

The Ministry of Law issued an order in this regard on Sunday evening.

The order, signed by Sheikh Golam Mahbub, deputy secretary (Admn-1) of the Ministry of Law, stated that being advised by the Bangladesh Supreme Court, the Judge Begum Mosammat Kamrunnahar has been attached to the Law and Justice Division under the Ministry of Law. 

Earlier, in the morning, Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain in consultation with other judges of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court suspended judicial power of Kamrunnahar.

On November 11, the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-7 of Dhaka acquitted all the five accused of the rape charge.

In her judgement, she made observation that police should not accept any rape case after expiry of 72 years into the incident.

The accused acquitted are Shafat Ahmed, son of Apan Jewellers co-owner Dilder Ahmed, Shafat's friend Shadman Sakif, director of Regnum Group, Nayem Ashraf, an employee of E-Makers Event Management, Shafat's driver Billal Hossain and bodyguard Rahmat Ali.

Two private university students were repeatedly raped at gunpoint at a birthday party from 9:00pm on March 28, 2017 to 10:00am the next day.
