HC keeps trial of case against Dr Yunus stayed

The High Court on Sunday stayed for six months the trial proceedings of a case filed against Grameen Telecom Chairman Nobel laureate Dr Muhammad Yunus on charge of violating labour law.

The High Court bench of Justice Md Habibul Gani and Justice Md Riaz Uddin Khan issued the order after hearing a petition filed by Dr Yunus in this regard.

The court also issued a rule upon the government to explain as to why they should not be directed to scrap the trial proceedings of the case.

Assistant Attorney General Mohammad Mahfuzur Rahman Likhon, who appeared in the hearing on behalf of the state, confirmed the matter.

The Department of Inspection for Factories and Establishments (DIFE) filed the case against four persons including Dr Yunus with Dhaka 3rd Labour Court on 9 September this year.

The other accused in the case are- Grameen Telecom managing director Ashraful Hassan, directors Nurjahan Begum and Md Shahjahan.
