Bashundhara Group, the largest industrial conglomerate of Bangladesh, stood beside the cold-hit poor in Chuadanga on Wednesday as part of its countrywide blanket distribution programme.
It gave blankets to 2,000 distressed people in five places including Chuadanga Sadar, Alamdanga, Jibannagar and Damurhuda upazilas of the district.
The largest industrial conglomerate distributed blankets among people at Rahela Khatun Girls Academy in Chuadanga at 10:30am. Superintendent of Police Jahidul Islam attended the programme as the chief guest.
Appreciating the blanket distribution, Jahidul Islam said Bashundhara Group’s initiative is really commendable and it will encourage the backward section of society.
Besides, blankets were distributed among students and vulnerable people on the premises of Chuadanga Alia Madrasah. Mir Mohammad Jannat Ali, Principal of the Madrasah, among others, was present.
In the field of Jibannagar Model High School, blankets were distributed among elderly, disabled and windows hard hit by the pinching cold. Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md Ariful Islam, former Upazila Parishad chairman Abdul Latif Amal and Model High School headmaster Abu Saleh attended the event.
Hawaron Bibi, an elderly woman and one of the recipients of the blanket, expressed happiness and gratitude to Bashundhara Group for the charity.
In Alamdanga, distressed people received blankets from Bashundhara Group at a ceremony held on the premises of Diabetic Samity.
Principal of Alamdanga Degree College Golam Sarwar and radio artist Raich Uddin attended the programme.
Meanwhile, cold-hit destitute received blankets in the precinct of Damurhuda Pilot Girls School and College. Upazila agriculture officer Moniruzzaman and Damurhuda union parishad chairman Hazrat Ali were present on the occasion.
The previous day, Bashundhara Group distributed blankets in Narail, Jhenaidah and Pabna.
