Newly appointed Indian Assistant High Commissioner to Chittagong Dr. Rajeev Ranjan praised Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's courage to fight terrorism and militancy as her bold stand against the menaces helped Bangladesh move forward.
Bangladesh is now considered as a role model for other developing economies in achieving sustainable development, he said while talking to reporters at PHP VIP Lounge of the Chattogram Press Club on Wednesday (Feb 9).
Remembering Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman with deep respect on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of Bangladesh's independence, the Indian envoy said both Bangladesh and India are now enjoying excellent bilateral relations.
Chattogram Press Club President Alhaj Ali Abbas presided over the meeting.
In the view exchange meeting, the Press Club greeted the Indian Assistant High Commissioner with an honorary crest and a bouquet.
Rajeev Ranjan also handed over a courtesy gift from India to the President of the Press Club.
The envoy also said, “The door of the Assistant High Commission office will always be open for my working journalists."
Press Club President Ali Abbas said the contribution of India and the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi during the Bangladesh's liberation war is written in golden letters in the history.
The Chattogram Press Club celebrated her birthday on November 19, last year, he said, adding the club also organized a commemorative meeting to mark the death anniversary of former Indian President Pranab Mukherjee.
The journalist community of Chattogram will always keep the relation of the people of the two countries intact, he added.
General Secretary of Press Club Chowdhury Farid delivered welcome speech while Joint Secretary Nazrul Islam moderated the programme.
Press Club Senior Vice President Salahuddin Md. Reza and Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) vice president Shahid Ul Alam also spoke on the occasion.
