DHAKA: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has termed the country’s historical millstone of reaching 10,000 megawatt electricity as a pathway of radiance.

The premier, also ruling Awami League president, made the assertion while inaugurating celebration titled ‘Alok Utsob’ at city’s Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in the evening.

Addressing the programme, she said, “It`s a successful and historic day for our government as it has set milestone and materialized our commitment to the people.”

She added: “In the election manifesto the government had made a commitment to enhance the country’s power generation capacity to 7,000-MW by 2013 but we are producing more than our target, making the country free from load-shedding.”

The celebration was launched in the evening with a spectacular fireworks and laser show at Hatirjheel Lake enjoyed by thousands of people from all walks of life.
