Advocate Md Shahjahan Mia, an Awami League lawmaker from Patuakhali-1 constituency and former state minister for religious affairs, passed away this morning (October 21). He was 83.

He died while undergoing treatment at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Hospital in Dhaka at 6am.

The information was confirmed by Shahjahan Mia Mia's son Advocate Tarikuzzaman Moni.

Shahjahan Mia served as the president of the district Awami League for more than two consecutive years. He was the chairman of Patuakhali municipality and a three-time Member of Parliament from Patuakhali-1 Constituency. He was also elected as the president of the Patuakhali-1 Bar Association for several terms.

He is survived by three sons and one daughter.
