Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Habibur Rahman claimed that BNP themselves have locked their central office in Nayapaltan although there have been no restrictions on them entering the office.
If BNP comes to reopen their Nayapaltan office we wouldn't bar them from doing that, he added.
DMP Commissioner was talking to the media during his visit to the Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery on Tuesday (November 14).
Clarifying the situation regarding the locked office, Habibur Rahman said “Our police are always there for security. Police are on guard there for 30 days of 12 months. Likewise, there is still a police presence there.”
Earlier on November 2, a staff of the Election Commission (EC) on left an invitation letter addressed to BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on a chair at the gate of the party’s central office at Nayapaltan which remains locked following October 28 foiled rally.
On October 28, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir suspended the grand rally in the capital's Nayapaltan and announced the hartal.
BNP claimed that the rally was suspended as police fired rubber bullets, flash grenades and lobbed tear gas shells, forcing the BNP leaders and activists to leave the rally venue.
Later on October 29, Police cordoned off BNP's office in Nayapaltan on with yellow tape, and are apparently treating it as a crime scene.
