Awami League (AL) General Secretary Obaidul Quader today (November 15) said that there is no scope to hold a dialogue with Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP).
“Engaging in a dialogue with BNP is not possible at this moment. The nation will swiftly move towards election shortly after the announcement of the election schedule,” Quader told reporters at his secretariate office in the capital on Wednesday.
Quader also Road Transport and Bridges minister, said, “If we have to hold the dialogue, it will be unconditional and we said it before.”
He further said, “If a dialogue is to hold, it should involve all political parties. Holding discussion with one or two parties will likely not yield any result.”
Earlier in the day, US Ambassador to Bangladesh Peter Haas conveyed a letter from US Assistant Secretary Donald Lu to Quader.
The letter emphasised the importance of engaging AL, BNP and Jatiya Party in a dialogue to hold the upcoming general election in a free, fair and credible manner.
Meanwhile, Chief Election Commissioner Kazil Habibul Awal is all set to announce the schedule for the 12th parliamentary election by this evening.
