Members of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested Habibur Rahman Habib, vice chairman of BNP and adviser to the BNP chairperson, early today (November 21).
Shihab Karim, media officer of Rab-2, confirmed the matter on Tuesday morning.
Habibur Rahman Habib was arrested in the capital's Mirpur DOHS for not appearing in court despite directions of the High Court in connection with a contempt of court rule against him, RAB said.
Earlier on October 15, the High Court summoned Habibur Rahman Habib to appear before it on November 6 for making derogatory comments about Justice Md Akhtaruzzaman.
Later on November 8, the High Court ordered the inspector general of police (IGP) to produce BNP leader Habibur Rahman Habib before the court on December 7 after he failed to make an appearance despite being summoned.
In a video clip circulated on social media, Habibur Rahman Habib made derogatory remarks about Justice Md Akhtaruzzaman for sentencing Khaleda Zia in the Orphanage Trust corruption case.
