Police ready to prevent violence

DHAKA: Law enforcing agencies initiated tight security measures in the city to avert any untoward situation ahead of non-permitted programme ‘March for Democracy’ at Nayapaltan on Sunday.

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Hasan Mahmood Khandker confirmed the matter to journalists at police Headquarters on Saturday.

The police chief said, “There is no scope of compromising with the criminals carrying out subversive acts and forces have been directed to apply the power whatever the laws permit.”

He said all the police forces remained alert to deal with any kind of situation keeping information of subversive acts in consideration.

Meanwhile, high officials of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) also confirmed the intensified scrutiny measures to banglanews.

According to DMP sources, additional law enforcers will be deployed on Sunday in different parts and gateways to the city and detectives is on alert for tip off.

Several patrolling teams along with a special team with plain cloths will also keep eyes to thwart any subversive or violent activities.

Officer-in-Charge of Paltan Thana Golam Morshed told banglanews that a large number of police would be deployed in Paltan and adjacent its areas and any gatherings would be foiled as there is no permission to mass gather from DMP.
