Urging the countrymen to vote for “Boat,” Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today (January 7) said her party will sweep the general election.

She said: “We will win the election, no doubt about it.”

The premier said this to reporters after casting her ballot at the Dhaka City College center in the 12th Jatiya Sangsad election this morning.

Voting in the 12th general election began across Bangladesh on Sunday morning amid urges from the ruling party to the voters to exercise the franchise and calls from the opposition to boycott the election. 

The voting started at 8am amid fear of violence while major opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and its allies are observing a 48-hour nationwide hartal which began at 6am on Saturday.

More than 11.93 crore people are eligible to vote and will be able to cast their ballots until 4pm on Sunday without any break at 42,024 voting centres.
