Law enforcers release BNP’s Moyeen Khan

Police released BNP Standing Committee Member Abdul Moyeen Khan hours after his detention from capital’s Uttara on Tuesday (January 30).

The BNP leader was released around 3:30 pm, Shamsuddin Didar, a member of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia's media wing.

Earlier in the day, Moyeen Khan was taken into police custody while holding ‘Black Flag Procession’ as part of the party’s central programme to press home demand for a fresh election under a nonparty caretaker government.

Police also detained Moyeen Khan’s personal assistant Bahauddin Bhuiyan Liton and four other activists of the party’s women front Jatiyatabadi Mohila Dal from the area but further details regarding their release could not be known immediately, according to the party source.

Earlier, BNP and its like-minded political parties brought out nationwide black-flag processions, the first day the 12th parliament goes into session, demanding the cancelation of the 12th parliamentary election and holding of a fresh election under a non-party government.
