A Dhaka court on Tuesday (October 22) placed Barrister Syed Sayedul Haque Sumon, a former independent lawmaker, on a five-day remand in a case filed over shooting a Jubo Dal leader, Ridoy Mia, in Dhaka's Mirpur area during the quota reform protests.

Former MP Suman was apprehended by the police from his sister’s house at Mirpur-6 in Dhaka around 1:30am on Tuesday.

Before his arrest, he wrote on his verified Facebook account, “I am going with the police. See you in court. Pray for me, everyone.”

In a video message, posted on his Facebook page, the ex-MP also claimed that he was in Dhaka and did not go anywhere after 5 August. For security reasons, he remained out of public sight.

Suman was elected a lawmaker as an independent candidate from Habiganj-4 in the general election on January 7.
