DHAKA: Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad Wednesday removed Tajul Islam Chowdhury MP from charges of the party office and appointed publicity secretary Sultan Mahmud at the post.

Assistant office-secretary Abul Hasan Ahmed Jewel came up with the disclosure.

In his reactions, Tajul Islam Chowdhury told banglanews that he also learnt the matter but did not know the reason of the decision.

Tajul Islam, known in the party as closer to opposition leader Raushon Ershad, was selected as Chief Whip of the opposition.

The chairman might remove me for participating in the 10th general elections, he added.

Senior leaders of the party said this would create rift between HM Ershad and Raudhon Ershad.
