DHAKA: Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has clarified that it has nothing to do with the purported audiovisual message from al-Qaeda chief Ayman al-Zawahiri.
Acting secretary general of the Jamaat Dr Shafiqur Rahman clearedthe air on Sunday evening.
The Jamaat responded a day after al-Qaeda’s alleged call to Bangladeshis "to stage an intifada (popular uprising) to against the onslaught on Islam."
Various social organizations, civil society and security analysts suspect Jamaat`s hand in the alleged audiovisual message by al-Qaeda chief but Jamaat has flatly denied it.
The Jamaat leader asserted that his party abhors terrorism of any kind.
