Awami League eligible for election unless banned: CEC

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) A M M Nesar Uddin said Awami League could participate in elections unless declared banned by the government or court.

He made this remark on Monday (Dec 30) morning during a meeting with election officials at the Circuit House, focusing on voter list updates and preparations for the 13th National Election.

CEC said the Election Commission is now entirely independent and free from external or international pressures.

“We are only bound by our conscience,” he said, adding that fair elections are achievable, and the Commission will ensure all necessary measures for transparent voting. The voter list will be updated within six months.

Regional Election Officer Md. Yunus Ali, District Election Officer Enamul Haque, and other officials were present during the discussion.
