Woman likely Army chief in future: Chumki

DHAKA: The women are being empowered in every sphere of the society. Heading this practice, women may uplift themselves as Army chief in near future.

State Minister for Women and Children Affairs Meher Afroz Chumki came up with the assertion in a ‘meet the reporters’ at Dhaka Reporters Unit (DRU) in the city on Sunday.

The program was organized on the occasion of International Women’s Day.

Chumki said Bangladesh has got female mountain conqueror. “The women of the country scaled the height of the Mount Everest,” she said.

The day is not far away when the women would be seen as Army chief, she added.

She also said the International Women’s Day is observed due to ensure the equal rights of male and female.

None should be backward rather men and women should step together to the path of progress. If it is possible, the necessity of observing the day will be abolished, she observed.

Moreover, she said the government, opposition leader and the speaker of country’s national parliament are women.

In every sector, women are proving their competent and this is a matter of pride and dignity for us, she added.

The President of DRU Shahed Chowdhury, general Secretary Elias Khan and Women Affairs Editor of the organization Syeda Shahana Lutfa were among others present at the program.
