Supporters of BNP leader Engineer Ishraque Hossain continued their protests in front of Dhaka South City Corporation’s Nagar Bhaban for the fourth straight day, demanding his official declaration as mayor.

Under the banner of 'Dhakabasi (Dhaka Dwellers)', BNP leaders, and ordinary voters from South Dhaka have been staging demonstrations, calling for Hossain’s mayoral confirmation.

This morning (May 18), BNP-affiliated organizations gathered outside Nagar Bhaban, shutting the main entrance and blocking access to offices and elevators. 

Hundreds of demonstrators took to the streets, chanting slogans and demanding action.

Protesters later marched from Nagar Bhaban to the Secretariat, calling for the resignation of Asif Mahmud Sajeeb Bhuiyan, an advisor to the government’s cooperative department. 

They vowed to continue their movement until Ishraque Hossain is officially recognized as mayor.

Earlier in the day, thousands of Hossain’s supporters assembled with banners and placards from 9 am, voicing their demands with slogans.

Ward 33 BNP president Abdur Rahman said, “Ishraque is the people's mayor. There are too many excuses—he must be declared mayor soon.”

The protests have caused significant traffic congestion, with hundreds of vehicles stuck around Gulistan, Fulbaria, and Banga Market due to road blockades near Nagar Bhaban.

The demonstrations have seen active participation from BNP, Jubo Dal, Krishak Dal, and various other party-affiliated groups, amplifying pressure on authorities.
