BNP-Jamaat backed runners win

THAKURGAON: The candidates backed by BNP and its key ally Jamaat-e-Islami won in the election of Sadar Upazila Parishad, held on Wednesday.

BNP-backed Toimur Rahman won the chairman post, who secured 145,522 votes, defeated Awami League-backed Arunangshu Dutta Tito bagged 116,383 votes.

Jamaat-backed Alamgir Hossain won the post of vice-chairman obtaining 155,715 votes while his nearest opponent was AL-backed Asraful Haque Chowdhury secured 101,330 votes.

In the post of vice-chairman for woman, BNP-backed Seratun Nahar, securing 146,098 votes, defeated AL-backed Shahnaz Begum Parul got 103,709 votes.
    
District assistant returning officer, and also Upazila Nirbahi Officer, Golam Azom announced the polls result unofficially.
