BCL-Sramik League clash hurts 8

GAZIPUR: At least eight people were injured in a clash between the activists of ruling Awami League’s associate bodies –Chhatra League (BCL) and Sramik League (SL)- in Sreepur of the district Tuesday night over establishing supremacy.

The clash took place at Palli Bidyut intersection of Mowna area of the upazila at 8:00pm.

The injured were  identified as Sohag, 23, Masud, 28, Momen, 26, Sohel, 27, Asad, 21, and Sabbir, 23, while rests remained unidentified.

Four of them were sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

Witnesses said Telihati union BCL leader Sohag Elem locked into a scuffle with Sreepur SL unit organizing secretary Solaiman Hoque Riopn on Monday.

Later, Sohag along with others sat on at his uncle’ shop at the intersection On Tuesday night. At that time a group of SL men numbering 10 to 15 led-by Solaiman and Shawkat Fakir armed with pistols and locally made weapons attacked them, leaving 8 people injured.

The injured were rushed to the Upazila Health Complex. Of them, four   were referred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital as their condition deteriorated.

Sreepur Model Thana Sub-Inspector Ziaul Isalm confirmed the matter to banglanews.
