DHAKA: The High Court on Monday summoned Rafiqul Islam Khan, acting secretary general of Jamaat-e-Islami, for his remarks over the verdict of the court.
An HC bench of Justice Ashfaqul Islam and Justice Ashraful Kamal passed the order asking Jamaat leader to appear himself before the court on July 7.
Deputy attorney general SM Moniruzzaman was the prosecutor while Barrister Mahbub Uddin Khokan moved for Rafiqul Islam Khan before the court.
On August 1, 2013, the High Court announced the registration of Jamaat-e-Islami as political party illegal, which Rafiqul denied saying the judgment as politically motivated and against the rule of law, democracy, fundamental rights and constitution.
On August 5 of the year, senior lawyer Masud Reza Sobhan drew attention to the court about the matter. Later, the court summoned Rafiqul Islam Khan and Mohammad Ibrahim.
The court also issued a rule asking why there would not be taken actions against them on the charge of contempt of court.
The court was set to pass order on Monday in this regard but Rafiqul Islam did not appear before court.
This is why the court ordered him to report before the court on July 7, reported banglanews correspondent.
