MADARIPUR: The voting in Madaripur Sadar upazila is underway from Thursday morning amid five level tight security measures.
The polling began at 8:00am and will continue till 4:00pm without break.
Some 11 candidates are vying for three posts—chairman, vice-chairman and woman vice-chairman—in the upazila.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer Sheikh Mohammad Jalal Uddin said that some 1,17,484 male and 1,14,151 female voters are likely to cast their votes to elect their three representatives in 114 voting centers.
A total of 7,66 polling officers, 68 presiding officers and 383 assistant presiding officers, are taking votes in 383 booths of 68 vote centers in the upazila.
Army and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel were seen patrolling in the voting centers.
Deputy Commissioner GSM Jafar Ullah said that the voters were casting their votes with the presence of presiding officer, assistant presiding offcers, polling agents, Assistant Sub-Inspector of police and Ansar members.
