CHITTAGONG: Yet another sedition charge was filed against three top BNP leaders, including Secretary-General Khandaker Delwar Hossain, with a Chittagong court Wednesday for allegedly making threatening speeches against the Prime Minister.
The two other opposition politicians sued are BNP Standing Committee member Barrister Rafiqul Islam Mian and Vice-chairman Shah Mozzem Hossain.
Rangunia upazila Chhatra League president Badiul Khair Chowdhury Liton filed the allegation with the court of senior Judicial Magistrate of Chittagong Keshab Chandra Roy.
The court fixed Thursday for hearing as to “whether the allegation can be accepted as a sedition case”.
District Court Assistant Public Prosecutor (APP) Nikhil Kumar Nath told banglanews24.com.bd the three accused leaders gave “clear death threat to the Prime Minister” with regard to the matter of banning religion-based politics at a protest rally at Muktagon in the capital, Dhaka, on 25 July.
As per allegation, their speeches betrayed a “deep-rooted conspiracy against the Prime Minister, the government and the country”.
The allegation was brought under 120 (Kha) and 506 (Kha) of the Criminal Procedure Code.
Besides, the plaintiff appealed for issuing summons or arrest warrant against the accused accepting the allegation as case under the aforesaid two sections of the criminal law.
Earlier on Tuesday, a sedition case was filed against the BNP leaders with a Bogra court.
The high-profile political trio has already been summoned by a Dhaka court in a case on the same charge—in the wake of a latest government-opposition political standoff.
