BCL threatens to prevent Khaleda Zia’s rally

DHAKA: Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) on Saturday threatened to prevent rally of BNP chairperson if her son’s remarks on Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman are not withdrawn.

BCL made the declaration from a protest procession and rally at Bangabandhu Avenue in the city in the afternoon.

The leaders of BCL also asked to seek pardon to the nation for the remarks.

BCL president HM Badiuzzaman said, “BNP has to seek pardon to the nation withdrawing the remarks of Tarique Rahman that demeaned Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.”

He added: “He (Tarique Rahman) also has to be thrown out from BNP.”

Forewarning BNP, Badiuzzaman further said Chhatra League would call rallies wherever she (Khaleda Zia) will try to hold rally.

Supporting the stand of BCL president, Food Minister Advocate Quamrul Islam said, “It is necessary to extrude Khaleda Zia and Tarique Rahman from politics for establishing fair politics in Bangladesh.”

State Minister for Home Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, former BCL president Liaqat Sikder, Mahmud Hasan Ripon, Swechhasebok League president Molla Mohammad Abu Kauser, former general secretary of BCL Mahmudur Haider Chowdhury Roton also, among others, spoke.

Later, they brought out a protest procession.
