DHAKA: Opposition BNP leader and former minister Mirza Abbas was Saturday taken on a fresh three-day remand in a case of his alleged involvement in torching vehicles during the June 27 hartal.
Metropolitan Magistrate Abdullah-al-Mamun passed the order giving him to police for grilling over the troubles during the general strike that entailed a severe backlash.
Investigation Officer of the case S Zaman prayed for 7-day remand on July 29. But the hearing wasn`t held for the illness of Mirza.
Police Saturday produced him before the court with the remand prayer and the court granted the three-day remand.
"We prayed for bail but the court rejected," said Lawyer of Mirza Abbas Dhaka Bar President Advocate Sanaullah Mia.
Mirza Abbas, arrested on the hartal day, was shown arrested in four cases and placed on remand in three.
