DHAKA: Mentioning global rights groups Amnesty International (MI) and Human Rights Watch (HRW) as the ‘agents’ of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), the ruling Awami League (AL) leaders demanded end of these organizations’ activities in Bangladesh.

The demand came from a discussion, held at Biruttam Khwaja Nizamuddin Auditorium in city’s Segunbagicha Saturday noon, on the occasion of Homecoming Day of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, which took place on January 10, 1972.

Bangabandhu Sangskritik Jote organized the program marking the day of the Father of the Nation’s return to Bangladesh through London and New Delhi from his captivity in Pakistan and took oath of office as Bangladesh premier.

AL secretary of publicity and publication affairs Dr Hasan Mahmud was present as chief guest while Dhaka metropolitan AL unit joint secretary and also food minister Advocate Qamrul Islam, among others, attended the discussion, chaired by Jote’s president Mobarak Ali Shikdar.

Hasan Mahmud said that Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch have been made the accomplices of miscreants.

“They are more worried about BNP chairperson and its secretary general than of common people,” he alleged.

On the other hand, the food minister said that Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch are the agents of BNP.

Criticizing the organizations’ activities, he added that Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch are also the black spots of human rights. “They should be banned in Bangladesh for criticizing the government.”
