22 BNP-Jamaat men held in city

DHAKA: Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) detained a total of 22 people during separate drives across the city in the last 24 hours till Tuesday morning.

Of the detainees, 17 are the leaders-activists of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and 5 are Jamaat-e-Islami.

DMP deputy commissioner (media and public relation) Masudur Rahman confirmed the matter to banglanews.

Tuesday is the last day of the fresh spell of 72-hour hartal of the BNP-led 20-party alliance, across the country.

The alliance has been observing the shutdown since Sunday morning protesting the killing and arrests of the alliance men and demanding the restoration of democracy and voting rights, coupled with a nationwide blockade.
