RAJSHAHI: Cadres of Islami Chhatra Shibir allegedly cut the tendons of the legs of a leader of Juba League (JL), youth front of Awami League, and an activist of Chhatra League in Binodpur Bazar of the city on Tuesday night.
The victims are Mehedi Hasan Yamin, 35, president of Matihar 30 No. Ward JL unit, while another was Ishtiak Hossain Isha, 24, an activist of BCL, students’ wing of Awami League.
Rajshahi University BCL unit president Mizanur Rahman Rana told banglanews that Mehedi and Ishtiak along with several others were staying in front of Kamela Degree College in Binodpur around 10:00pm.
At that time, a group of Shibir men, chanting slogans “Nare Takbir”, “Allah Hu Akbar”, exploded cocktails there and attacked Mehedi and Ishtiak, claimed Awami League.
The cadres of Shibir, students’ wing of Jamaat-e-Islami, hacked them with sharpen weapons, cut the tendons of their legs and left the scene.
Shibir men chopped the left hand and leg of Mehedi and at different parts of Ishtiak’s body, including his two legs. They also shot at Mehedi’s left thigh and severed his tendon, Mizanur added.
Locals rushed in and took the victims to Rajshshi Medical College and Hospital. They were undergoing treatment there.
Mizanul also condemned the Sihbir attack on JL men and demanded immediate punishment to the attackers.
Matihar Thana Officer-In-Charge (OC) Abdur Rauf of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police on confirmed the matter to banglanews.
Police suspect Shibir cadres are involved in the attack and raids are underway to nab the attackers, said the OC.
