DHAKA: BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia will not pay tribute in person to the language movement martyrs at the Central Shaheed Minar on Saturday, on the occasion of 'Amar Ekushey' and International Mother Language Day.
BNP senior leaders led-by its standing committee member Lieutenant General (retd) Mahbubur Rahman will place floral wreaths on behalf of their party chief there.
BNP joint secretary Salah Uddin Ahmed disclosed the matter through press release on Friday noon.
Salah Uddin requested the party leaders and activists to gather in front of the Balaka Cinema Hall in city to pay homage to language martyrs at the Shaheed Minar, according to the statement.
BNP insiders fear that if Khaleda Zia leaves Gulshan political office, where she has been staying since January 3, for placing floral wreath at the Shaheed Minar, the government will put it under lock and key.
