Ex-Army officers barred to enter Khaleda office

DHAKA: Police deployed in front of Khaleda Zia's Gulshan office did not allow a team of former Army officers carrying food items for the BNP chief to enter the office on Saturday noon.

Lawmen obstructed the food supply some 200 yards away at the office gate, said a spot account.

The team members are Major (retd) of Bangladesh Army Iftekhar, squadron leader (retd) Jamil, Commander (retd) Reza, major (retd) Ohidun Nabi, and Bangladesh navy commander (retd) Saiful Paiker.

Later, major (retd) Ohidun Nabi told reporters that they were worried to hear about the starvation of wife of former army chief and former prime minister. So, they brought some food items for her but police did not allow entering the office.

He added: “Deliberately leaving the former prime minister to starve on the Amar Ekushey is violation of human rights. We condemn this.”

They did not go there with any political purpose, he also said.

Khaleda Zia along with some family members and staffs has been staying at the Gulshan office since January 3.
