RANGPUR: At least 53 persons including 11 BNP-Jamaat men were arrested in Rangpur district till Thursday noon.

Sources said that law enforcers conducted several drives in different parts of the district from Wednesday midnight to Thursday noon and arrested the people in accusation of creating violence and committing other crimes.

Rangpur Detective Branch (DB) official Shariful Islam told banglanews that the arrestees include 7 BNP and 4 Jamaat men while the others were of drug paddlers, snatchers, murderers and fugitives of different cases.

The arrestees were sent to jail through court, he added.

According to the DB official, the drives will continue to thwart any subversive attack in the area.
