Pro-BNP panel sweeps Rajshahi Bar election

RAJSHAHI: The pro-BNP-Jamaat lawyers swept the Rajshahi Bar Association (RBA) election 2015-16, wining 18 posts including president and general secretary.

Pro-Awami League-left party lawyers won four posts in the election.

Among the pro-BNP-Jamaat lawyers, Nazmus Sadat and Jamsed Ali were elected president general secretary respectively. Sazeman Ali and Shamsul Haque were been elected joint secretaries as both secured the same number of ballots. They will perform their duty for six months each.

The other post bearers are Vice-President: AKM Mizanur Rahman and Mahabubul Islam, joint general secretary: Shamshul Haque, treasurer: Munsi Abu Kalam Azad, library secretary: Abdul Malek Rana, audit secretary: Mahmudur Rahman Ruman, press and information secretary: Abdur Razzak, magazine and cultural secretary Razab Ali, and members: Adiluzzaman, Jalal Uddin (1), Jahangir Alam, KM Iftekhar Hamid Shaymol, Selim Reza Masum and Sifat Zerin Tuli.

Of the pro-Awami League-left party lawyers, Mokhlesur Rahman secured the vice-president post while Apurba Bhattacharyam Syeda Marzina Khatun, and Nasira Banu won as the members of the committee.

The voting in the bar association polls was held on Wednesday. A total of 506 out of 543 voters cast their ballots in the election.
