DHAKA: Candidates from BNP in the upcoming Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) and Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) elections are waiting for the party’s green signal in commencing their campaigns.
Competent party sources told banglanews that the candidates are waiting for the signal of the party chief as there are several candidates in DNCC and DSCC elections.
However, the BNP candidates will participate under the banner of ‘Shoto Nagorik Committee’.
Sources also said BNP candidates would seek bail release when the courts will open on April 1 before starting their field activities.
The candidates hoped that the environment would be free and fair if the government becomes cordial about city corporation polls.
The BNP candidates in the mayoral elections include Abdul Awal Mintu, Mirza Abbas, Abdus Salam, all are hiding for several cases against them.
BNP international affairs secretary Dr Asaduzzaman Ripon, who is also a mayor candidate from DSCC, told banglanews that they will start campaigns after getting directions from the party chairperson Khaleda Zia.
A close aide to Abdul Awal Mintu, a mayor candidate for DNCC, told banglanews that they would seek Mintu’s bail release when the court will open on April 1.
