13 BNP-Jamaat men among 88 held in 3 districts

DHAKA: At least 88 persons including 13 BNP-Jamaat men were held in nightlong drives in Chittagong, Jessore and Gaibandha districts on Saturday.

In Chittagong, police nabbed 11 activists of BNP and its key ally Jamaat-e-Islami from different parts of the district in accusation of their involvement in creating violence.

The detainees include four from BNP, one from Jamaat and 6 from its student affiliate Islami Chhatra Shibir.

District additional police super (Special Branch) Mohammad Naimul Hassan told banglanews that law enforcers detained 11 BNP-Jamaat men from Sitakunda, Satkania and Lohagara thanas in overnight drives on Saturday.

The drives will continue to avert any untoward situation in the district, he added.

Moreover, police arrested 51 persons in nightlong drives across the district on the day.

Jessore district police control room sources said, the arrestees are accused in several cases and will be produced to the court.

Police arrested 26 people including two BNP activists in special drives from Friday midnight to Saturday morning in Gaibandha.

Confirming the matter to banglanews district additional police super Mosharraf Hossain said that the arrestees have been sent to jail following the court order.
