DHAKA: Ruling Awami League’s former MP Sarah Begum Kabari, also a renowned film actress and Bobby Hajjaj, former special adviser to PM’s special envoy HM Ershad, on Thursday withdrew their respective candidacy as mayoral aspirants for Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) elections.
Kabari, in person, submitted her withdrawal application to the office of Dhaka North Returning Officer in city’s Agargaon area around 4:30pm.
Earlier, another mayoral candidate Mustafa Kamal Azadi, also withdrew his candidacy for DNCC poll.
DNCC returning officer’s staff officer Nazrul Islam confirmed the matter to banglanews.
On the other hand, Bobby Hajjaj, in a press meet held on Thursday afternoon, confirmed the withdrawal of his candidacy from mayoral post of DNCC.
Bobby told reporters that his younger brother was on way to the Election Commission (EC) to submit the necessary documents of candidacy withdrawal.
As per election schedule, April 9 is the last date of candidacy withdrawal.
However, the EC will allot symbols to the contenders on April 10 while voting in the three city corporations will be held on April 28.
