DHAKA: At least 99 people including seven activists of Jamaat-e-Islami were held in Jessore and Jhenaidah districts on Saturday.

Law enforcers conducted nightlong drives from Friday midnight to Saturday morning.

Jessore district police control room sources said that the detainees are accused in several cases.

Moreover, police held 28 persons including two Jamaat activists in overnight drives conducted across Jhenaidah district Friday night.

Confirming the matter, district additional police super Hasanuzzaman said that on a tip-off, police conducted a drive and nabbed two Jamaat men Abdur Razzaque and Golam Azam as the duo were planning for creating violence.

Moreover, police, detained nine from sadar upazila, five from Kaliganj, four from Harinakundu and Shailakupa upazilas each and two from Maheshpur and Kotchandpur upazilas each.
