BNP-Shibir men among 130 held in 4 dists

DHAKA: Police, in overnight drives, detained some 130 people including BNP and Shibir men from several areas of Satkhira, Jessore, Chittagong and Chandpur districts till Sunday morning.

In Satkhira, 10 Jamaat-e-Islami activists among 39 men were arrested in drives from Saturday night to 10:30am Sunday in several areas.

Officer-in-charge (OC) of Special Branch of district police Sheikh Emdad Hossain confirmed the matter to banglanews.

In Jessore, police arrested 60 people in eight upazilas of the district.

Among the arrestees, three were BNP and two were Jamaat-e-Islami leaders and activists.

Jessore District control room sources confirmed the matter.

In Chittagong, two BNP and two Shibir activists, the student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami, were detained from Shitakunda and Lohagara upazilas of the district.

District additional superintendent of police (Special Branch) Muhammad Naimul Hasan told banglanews that they were detained for their alleged involvement in creating sabotage in the areas.

In Chandpur, the law enforcers conducted special drives from Saturday night to 9:00am Sunday in several upazilas of the district and detained 27 people including BNP men.

Confirming the matter, Chandpur SP M Amir Zafar told banglanews that they are accused in several cases.
