Tarique faces arrest warrant

HABIGANJ: A district court Thursday issued an arrest warrant against BNP Senior Vice-Chairman Tarique Rahman in a defamation case filed for his derogatory speeches against Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Senior judicial magistrate Nishat Sultana passed the order around 12:30pm after Tarique had not appeared before it on April 23 as per its earlier order.

Mahibur Rahman Mahi, Organizing Secretary of Bangladesh Chhatra League in Habiganj, filed the case with the court, said sources concerned.

According to the case statement, Tarique delivered derogatory speeches about Bangabandhu at a meeting in London.

Several warrants were issued for the arrest of Tarique, who has been staying in the United Kingdom since 2008 on parole in various cases.
