CHITTAGONG: The counting of the Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) polls is underway and the unofficial results have started coming to the banglanews newsroom Tuesday night.
According to the unofficial results from 512 out of 719 voting centers, ruling Awami League-endorsed candidate AJM Nasir Uddin (elephant symbol) has bagged 331,757 votes.
His nearest opponent BNP-backed candidate M Manzur Alam (orange symbol), who quit elections, got 212,099 votes.
The result was received from the CCC Returning Officer Abdul Baten’s temporary control room at the gymnasium hall of MA Aziz Stadium.
Of total 1,813,449 voters in 41 wards of CCC, 937,053 are male and 876,396 female.
A total of 213 general councilors, 62 reserved councilors and 12 mayoral candidates vied in the CCC elections.
Earlier in the day, voting of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC), Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) and Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) polls started at 8:00am and ended at 4:00pm amid stray incidents of violence, alleging and counter alleging and quitting elections by BNP and some other parties.
