DHAKA: Adarsha Dhaka Andalan, a pro-BNP organization, demanded the cancellation of Tuesday’s city corporation elections and resignation of all Election Commission (EC) officials.
The organization’s member secretary Shawkat Mahmud read the writing statement placing the demands at a press conference in city’s National Press Club on Wednesday afternoon.
Later, the organization’s convener and also former Dhaka University vice chancellor (VC) professor Dr Emajuddin Ahmed spoke in the program.
The statement said the election will be written as a scandal in history. It has become full of ‘nasty things’ due to dictatorship of EC, law enforcers and administration, Bangladesh Chhatra League-Juba League-Awami League people.
“We are astonished and worried, the nation is confounded in the incident of vote stealing and robbery”, said the statement.
Dr Emajuddin said, “We went to the EC before election and said the polls should be neutral so that the voters and candidates can meet each other. But, the EC did not fulfill the demand.”
Claiming that the three city corporation elections held with huge irregularities and vote rigging, the former VC demanded cancellation of the elections.
Educationalists professor Dr Mahbubullah, professor Dr AFM Yusuf Haidar, journalist Mahfuzullah, among others, were present at the press conference.
