‘BNP boycotts city polls out of ill-motives’

DHAKA: Cabinet members on Monday observed that the recently held city corporations polls were free and fair but BNP boycotted them out of their ill-motives.

A cabinet member, wishing not to be named, informed banglanews after the cabinet meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at secretariat in city.

However, ruling Awami League-endorsed candidates won in Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC), Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) and Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) polls, held on April 28.

But, BNP boycotted partway through the elections at noon on that day.

Cabinet members further opined that BNP boycotted the elections to make it controversial, the minister added.
