SYLHET: Sylhet Ganajagaran Mancha on Tuesday called a half-day hartal in the metropolitan area for Wednesday protesting the murder of blogger Ananta Bijoy Das.

Sylhet Ganajagaran Mancha Debashis Convener Debashish Debu announced the hartal at a press conference at Sylhet Medical College and Hospital around 2:30pm.

He said administration was taking little action though the progressive people had been killed one after another. “Bangladesh will turn into an inhabitable country if this situation continues,” he added.

Meanwhile, Progressive Chhatra Jote and local cultural activists extended their supports to the shutdown.

Bangladesh Jatiya Hindu Mahajote, Jubo Mahajote, Chhatra Mahajote, Human Rights Congress for Bangladesh Minority (HRCBM) and Bangladesh Minority Watch also extended their supports to the hartal.
