DHAKA: Prosecutor Barrister Turin Afroz said justice has again been established through the appellate division verdict that upheld ICT verdict of Salauddin Qauder Choswdhury’s death penalty as he persecuted the Hindu community during the war.
“Through trial of these crimes today it is proved that Bangladesh is a secular state,” she added.
The Supreme Court Wednesday upheld the death penalty to war criminal and also BNP leader Salauddin Quader for committing crimes against humanity during Liberation War in 1971.
A 4-member SC bench led by Chief Justice Sk Sinha started reading out the final verdict around 9:00am, rejecting his appeal against ICT verdict.
In a reaction after the judgment, Barrister Turin said he blasted on the tribunal several times. He claimed himself as lawmaker with arrogance. This verdict proved the truth the fact that none is above the law.
‘Today if Salauddin Quader had been allowed to attend court or even to talk to the court, he must make derogatory remark about the judgment, ‘Turin Afroz opined.
On October 1, Justice ATM Fazle Kabir led three member of ICT-1 awarded death sentence to Salahuddin Quader Chowdhury who was found guilty of nine charges out of 23 allegations.
