CHITAAGONG: A local Jubo League, front organization of ruling Awami League, leader was killed over establishing supremacy at Jelepara area under Sandwip Upazila of the district Friday evening.

The deceased was identified as Monirul Alam, 40, son of one Shamsul Haque, general secretary of Moghdhara Union, hailed from the area.

Quoting local people, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sandwip Police Station Mashiur Rahman told banglanews there was a longstanding clash between the supporters of Rahman Hujur group and Monirul Alam group over establishing supremacy in the area.

He further said, “In the evening of Friday, people of two groups locked into a clash over wholesale buying Hilsa fish. In a stage, the supporters of Rahman Hujur beat and hacked Monirul in the area, leaving him critically injured.

He was rushed to Upazila Health Complex where on duty doctor declared him dead on arrival, he added.

Police has been trying to detain the persons involved in the incident, he added.
