DHAKA: Family members of condemned war criminal Jamaat leader Al Ahsan Mohammad Mujahid met him at Dhaka Central Jail on Friday morning.

Five-member team including Mujahid’s wife Tamanna Jahan entered the prison around 10:47am, central jail senior jail super Jahangir Alam told banglanews.

While talking to reporters at jail gate after meeting with Mujahid, Tamanna Jahan sought justice for her husband to the President, Prime Minister and authorities concerned. 

Other family members, who accompanied her, include three sons Ali Ahmed Mabrur, Ali Ahmed Tahdid, Ali Ahmed Tahkik and daughter Tamrin.

In reply to a query of reporters, Tamanna said whether presidential mercy to be sought was not discussed with her husband during the meet.

Earlier, a five-member lawyers’ panel met Mujahid at the Dhaka Central Jail on October 3 when he asked them to file a petition to review the Appellate Division verdict that upheld his death sentence for war crimes.

On October 1, International Crimes Tribunal issued death warrant against the convicted war criminal Jamaat-e-Islami leader Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mujahid.

Earlier on September 30, the Supreme Court (SC) released full appeal-verdicts upholding death penalty to Mujahid for wartime crimes.

However, the convict can seek review of the apex court verdict within the next 15 days.

On July 17 in 2013, ICT-2 found the Jamaat secretary general Mujahid guilty of five out of seven charges brought against him.

The tribunal sentenced him to death on three charges.
