KHULNA: Associate of Bangabandhu and one of the organizers of the country’s war of independence Sheikh Ali Ahmmad passed away on Thursday.
He was 84.
He breathed his last at Gazi Medical Hospital in Khulna city around 7:00am.
The war veteran left behind wife, daughter, son, grandson, granddaughter and well-wishers to mourn his death.
The body of the freedom fighter was taken to his village home after namaz-e-janaza at Dakbanglow Jeme Masjid.
He was given to state honor before the burial at his family graveyard.
Khulna city unit Awami League president and former mayor Talukdar Adbul Khlek, city AL general secretary, 14-party coordinator Mizanur Rahman Mizan visited and expressed sympathy to bereaved family members.
However, Sheikh Ali Ahmmad was elected president of Bagerhat Mahkuma unit Chhatra League in 1954.
In 1970 general election, he was elected as member of provincial council.
Later, he served as general secretary of Khulna district Awami League in 1971.
Moreover, he was one of the main coordinators of sector-9 during the war.
