DHAKA: BNP will participate in the upcoming municipality elections, says party’s standing committee member Barrister Moudud Ahmed.
The BNP senior leader came up with assertion while talking to reporters on Saturday after paying tribute at party founder Ziaur Rahman’s tomb in the city on Saturday.
He further said the decision regarding the party’s participation in municipality elections might formally be announced after the return of BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia from London.
Moudud said that the party has yet to take any decision to join municipality polls. Party forum will take the decision later.
“I hope that party chairperson will return home soon and take decision in this regard,’ he added.
Alongside Moudud Ahmed, BNP vice-chairman Altaf Hossain, standing committee members Nazrul Islam Khan and Mahbubur Rahman, education affairs secretary Khairul Kabir Khokan, advocate Mahbub Uddin Khokon and Shirin Sultana, among others, placed wreaths on behalf of the party.
Besides, BNP associates Jatiyatabadi Peshajibi Dal, Chhatra Dal, Tanti Dal and Jatiyatabadi Samajik Sangskritik Sangstha (Jasas) paid tributes to party founder and also former president Ziaur Rahman to mark November 7 as the Revolution and Solidarity Day.
