DHAKA: At least 71 leaders and activists of BNP and its major ally Jamaat-e-Islami and the latter’s student wing Islami Chhatra Shibir conducting drives in five districts on Sunday.
Banglanews Joypurhat district correspondent said that law enforcers arrested 21 BNP-Jamaat men in the case of creating violence conducting separate drives from Saturday night to Sunday morning in the district.
Joypurhat police super (SP) Molla Nazrul Islam said that the arrestees carried out subversive activities during the BNP-called hartal-blockade.
In Pirojpur, our district correspondent said, police and Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) personnel arrested 45 people including six BNP, nine Jamaat and one Shibir activists in accusation of planning for subversive activities.
Pirojpur SP Mohammad Walid Hossain told banglanews that the arrestees include Bhandaria upazila unit Jamaat secretary Mofazzal Hossain.
Our Staff Correspondent from Bagerhat said that 35 people including 19 BNP-Jamaat leaders and activists were arrested in a special drive in the district.
Bagerhat additional police super (ASP) Hayatul Islam Khan told banglanews that the drives were conducted as a regular event to keep the law and order situation under control.
Moreover, police arrested 90 people, including 82 warranted accused in violence and other regular cases, in Chittagong.
Police also seized 6,200 pieces of yaba tablets, 75 liters of local liquor and 200 grams of cannabis during the drives.

In Meherpur, our district correspondent said that law enforcers arrested 22 people, including 15 leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami from several upazilas of the district.
