CHITTAGONG: At least 50 leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and its student wing Islami Chhatra Shibir were held in special drives conducted in Satkania and Lohagara upazilas of Chittagong district.
A special team of law enforcers conducted the drives from Friday night to Saturday morning.
Stakania Thana officer-in-charge (OC) Khandakar Farid Uddin told banglanews that 15 Jamaat and 24 Shibir activists were held during a overnight drive in the upazila.
On the other hand, Lohagara Thana OC Mohammad Shahjahan said that they detained 11 Shibir men in accusation of creating violence in the upazila.
Chittagong additional police super (special branch) Muhammad Naimul Hasan told banglanews that besides 50 Jamaat-Shibir men, law enforcers also arrested 45 accused in regular cases and 187 warranted accused from different parts of the district.
